Charles Townsend founded Townsend Textiles in 1981 after more than 10 years as European Sales Manager with two well-known British carpet manufacturers.

45 years and still up for a twist!

He has long been recognised by the industry as one of the foremost carpet experts in the retail sector.

Since the early 90s he has been the "carpet trouble-shooter" to the Ed Doolan Show on BBC Radio West Midlands and has written articles on "How to buy carpet that will last" published by the "Which" Magazine.

Charles has also staged and presented several stand alone carpet exhibitions for the consumer featuring British Carpet Manufacturers.

Townsends Carpets on Birmingham Road has always had a well established reputation for quality, extensive range and value for money.

Customers have been returning to Charles over the decades for his expert advice and good counsel when it comes to choosing and buying the right carpet.

Charles Says ....

“I’m pleased to say I remain as passionate as ever about carpet. As you can imagine, I have seen many trends come and go in terms of construction, fibres, colours and styles.

"It is no secret that I have always considered wool to be king in the carpet world but there are some excellent products in man-made fibre out there. Just make sure you know what you're buying and what you should reasonably expect in terms of performance.

"Overall, quality is the most important factor because it means the carpet will not only wear well but stay looking good, no matter what life throws at!

"I have always enjoyed listening to customers and hearing what they want from their carpet. I think that’s why people come back because they trust that I will help them make good choices.

"I would never recommend a carpet that I wouldn’t be happy to buy for my own home in terms of quality. Every customer is guaranteed my personal service backed up by years of knowledge and experience.”
